Study Abroad - A Synopsis

Education is for life—it is an investment that cannot be lost, spent or taken away. A good education prepares young people to build on their abilities and sets them up for lifelong learning, so that they can further enhance their opportunities.
Studying is a tough business; it requires investment of time and money. And when you invest in education, you invest now and receive dividends years after. Also investing in education is not a onetime business; it requires investment on a continuous basis. Any investment is done for making profits and education is not an exception to this.
A few decades back studying outside home country was the business of rich, now, its business of rich and brainy. People do globetrotting to earn education, the good education for a bright future.
People always are willing to invest in education; educating themselves or educating children. Governments invest in education to educate people. And earning education outside home country is considered as wise investment; however, it may cost more.
Young people also need to have a vision of the future they want, and be equipped to make it a reality. They need to be able to understand the pathways that are open to them, identify their own strengths, and make choices that will lead to a fulfilling and challenging career and a happy and productive life.
Good career development skills and transition support services increase the chances of young people staying on at school and succeeding as they manage their move to independence and adult life
The quality of technical and management education is becoming critical in today's world. The last two decades have been influenced by globalization, and the effect of globalization is reflected in liberalization of trade and capital markets.
Our future will be impacted by forces unleashed by the Internet, the mapping of the human genome, the convergence of technologies, and the deregulation of industries. Thus, the 21st century will be primarily shaped by intellectual capital
Studying abroad is just an amazing experience. It is unique from the personal as well as academic point of view. Being for a few months in an international environment is the best opportunity to establish intercultural contacts, have a valuable insight into a different culture, learn a language and grow as a person.
1. You will have the opportunity to meet students from around the world, learn about human values through integration into another culture, increase your foreign language skills (perhaps), have the opportunity to study at one of the world's most prestigious universities, become more sophisticated and more self-reflective.

2. Study abroad increases your flexibility and openness to new ideas, allows you to enjoy academic and experiential learning, and deepens cross-cultural understanding while it encourages independent thinking.
3. Your intellectual maturity and self-confidence will rise along with your career prospects.
4. A study abroad education in the UK or USA has always placed great importance on the ability of students to work independently and to develop their own thinking.
The end result is that students emerge from an international education not only with a thorough understanding of their subject but also with analytical abilities and problem-solving skills that are much prized by employers in later life.
All in all, you will become better prepared for your life and work in our increasingly globally interdependent world.

Guidelines on choosing the Right Study Abroad Consultant

Studying abroad in a reputed institution is a dream of numerous Indian students'. In the present scenario where the world is aptly called a 'global village', this dream is not very hard to achieve.

Some of the most coveted courses that students' want to pursue from foreign countries are Masters in Business Administration, Degree courses in Engineering, Degree courses in Biotechnology, Under Graduate as well as Post Graduate courses in humanities etc. Some of the foreign countries offer scholarships under cultural exchange programmes to eligible candidates who are interested to study in those countries.

Almost as important as the academic advantages of an international education are the chances it offers to experience life abroad. Quite simply, there is no better environment for Indian students to take hold of their future...and be the best they can be. A study abroad education in the UK or USA has always placed great importance on the ability of students to work independently and to develop their own thinking.

The end result is that students emerge from an international education not only with a thorough understanding of their subject but also with analytical abilities and problem-solving skills that are much prized by employers in later life.
It’s a great idea to study abroad but choosing the right host country is probably the most important decision you'll ever make, one that will affect the course of your personal and professional life for many, many years. You'll be leaving your country for a new culture, a new way of life, and new people.

Choosing the right Study Abroad Consultant :
There are several resources on the Internet which will also guide a student giving minute details of the college/university, which includes cost, reputation, quality of education, opportunity to earn on the campus, course details, fee details and much more. Most people prefer to go to Study Abroad Consultant for the selection of the right course, college/university and most important, accurate visa filing. It is better to visit a consultant who has been working in this field for a long time and not necessarily who has recently opened this businesss or has cheaper services. Many consultants will even offer free services because they get paid by the college themselves if they are able to get your admission done in that college, but it is most important to get the services of an unbiased, experienced and a knowledgeable study abroad consultant.

The Right Study Abroad Consultant will guide you through :

1. Correct Career Counseling : A good consultant will be able to tell you about various options that may be right for you, for eg. You want to pursue Masters in electronics/computer science, but your consultant will be able to suggest more opportunities like Masters in speech recognition or artificial intelligence. Many colleges offer specialization in outstanding fields which have pave a very bright future for the students. Therefore career counseling is a step which will broaden your thought process and the options you will have.

2. Selection of the right country/college: As you know, going to a foreign country for higher studies is a very broad term, but there are many factors which have to be kept in mind like financial background, educational test scores, percentage of marks etc. A good and experienced education consultant will precisely give you suggestions which you will have never thought of. He will also give you a practical review references of ex-students which will give you a insight about the quality of services offered.

3. Admission Guidance: A good consultant will guide you through the basic requirements like

a. Selecting the appropriate course according to your academic qualifications.
b. How and when to apply before the deadlines come in
c. Guide you through form filling and Preparation of the Statement of Purpose(SOP).
d. Give you choices of the intakes(Spring/Summer/Fall)

4. Guaranteed Admission : In many cases, the consultant will have a direct tie up with the colleges and universities, and this simplifies the whole admission process.

5. Financial/cost estimation: A good study abroad consultant will be able to guide the student regarding the estimation of costs for living, ability to earn while pursuing the course etc.

6. Student Visa assistance: Good and experienced consultants will be able to tell you what your chances are of getting a visa for a particular country or a better chance in others. This will help you select the course and country too.

7. Adept Visa Interview Guidance : You will be trained by some of the experts in this field who will conduct mock sessions and train you for the big day! Experts will also focus on your grooming and body language so that you make the right presentation before the Consular office.

8. Job/Career opportunities/Settlement opportunities: A good study abroad consultant will be able to guide you to the kind of jobs you can expect once the course is over and the opportunities you can grasp. You will also be guided about the various settlement options available in each country, along with your immediate family.

It is very important to select a good Study Abroad consultant. But do not follow him blindly and always do your own research before going ahead and applying.

New Zealand: A good option for International studies at the time of recession

The number of international students choosing to study in New Zealand rose sharply in the past year. Ministry of Education figures show that between January and August, 76,562 international fee-paying students took up studies in New Zealand, up 5.5 per cent on the 72,540 who came last year.
The amounts charged to education providers by the Ministry of Education increased by 7.8 per cent from $2.4 million in 2008 to $2.6 million this year.
Last year, "export education"' was one the top five earners for the economy with dairy, tourism, meat and mineral fuels. Education New Zealand is the umbrella industry body for organisations involved in teaching foreign students. Its communications specialist, Michelle Waitzman, said there were several possible reasons for the increase over the past year. One was New Zealand being seen as good value for money. "Being a global recession, people are looking for cheaper options." She said Auckland continued to be the most popular city for study as a lot of students were used to living in a big city and many had relatives in the region.
The biggest increase in student numbers came from India and Saudi Arabia. She said the reason for the increase in students from countries such as China and India was the growing number of middle-class families who could afford to send their children overseas to study. More students arrived from Saudi Arabia because of their Government's scholarships. "International predictions say that the number of globally mobile students will keep increasing."
Despite growth over the past year, the number of students was down 22 per cent on the 2003 high of 97,905. Ms Waitzman said the high number of international students five years ago occurred when there were fewer countries competing for students. New Zealand was one of the first countries to open its doors to Chinese students and since then many more options had become available.
Even from Gujarat, we have seen study abroad consultants advertising "Study in New Zealand". But, very few do the consulting in the ethical way and most of the applications end up getting rejected. The major reasons being low scores in IELTS and gap in the studies.
If you are not already in New Zealand and are applying to New Zealand to study, you must complete the requirements for the issue of a student visa.
You will be given the required forms by the New Zealand Government office (the visa issuing officer) in your country. Requirements for a student visa will normally include :
1. VERY IMPORTANT : A written offer of a place, which notifies you that you have been accepted by an educational institution in New Zealand to study there.
2. EITHER - A receipt for payment of course fees (You are not required to produce the receipt before your application has been approved in principle)
OR - Evidence that you are exempt from course fees. For e.g. A New Zealand Government Scholarship.
3. A complete and signed ‘Application for Student Visa’ form, with a passport-size photograph. You will be required to pay a non-refundable student visa application fee.
4. A guarantee of accommodation - a written assurance from an educational institution or other person that suitable residential accommodation is available to you in New Zealand.
5. Your passport or certificate of identity, which must be valid for the period of time for which you are applying to study.
6. Evidence that funds are available for your maintenance throughout your stay. One of the four is acceptable as evidence :
• A completed ‘Sponsoring a student’ form, in which your sponsor gives a financial undertaking that he or she can transfer to New Zealand NZ $7,000 a year : this amount is considered minimum for a year’s living expenses.
• A letter from your educational institution confirming that your living expenses have already been paid for as part of your fees.
• A bank document showing that funds of the required amount will be available to you in New Zealand ($1000 for each month of your stay for short term study, $7000 a year for long term study)
• An award of a full New Zealand scholarship
If you intend studying in New Zealand for more than 24 months, you will need :

a) Completed New Zealand Immigration service medical and chest X-ray certificates

b) Character clearances, which must be two original character references (if under 17 years of age), or a local police clearance (if you are 17 and over). You will be advised of the procedure for obtaining these by the New Zealand government office.

All these documents are essential before a student visa is issued. When the overseas New Zealand government office is satisfied that your application is complete and in order, you will be issued a student visa.
